Day 40 #3
The Free Speech Union kindly collated candidates' views on speech.
I highlight here my response to the question about drag queens giving story time in a public library.
Yes, we need to be inclusive, tolerant and consistent in all our approaches within this wonderfully liberal world (this is not sarcasm).
I stated that I would attend such events as a matter of priority.
Here is my personal take -
There is no way I would have subjected my children to such art forms in their younger years.
As the mayor, I would attend in case there were children there who needed my support and in case there were families who might see the error (of allowing adults to groom their children into thoughts that are too difficult for them), simply by my quiet presence.
I think that question is a strange one from the Free Speech Union.
It's not as though the mayor has any legal mandate to decide who fits and who doesn't, and we would be in a bad state if we did.
Is the Free Speech Union subtly putting out that society is in need of mayors who can decisively set the tone?
I like that idea.
It's like the All Us Moderates movement.
You know a tone when you see it.
You hear a tune when you hear it.
You cannot taste sweet when it's bitter,
but together we add plenty of sweetener.
Ideas is what gets us salivating.
Bitter sweet is a great taste.
